First off, ah! I should really be doing my homework right now, rather than spend my time on this blog!
Secondly, I'm having some difficulty developing my own style for my artwork. It seems to me that there isn't any style or flair to the artwork that I produce. Everything comes out looking okay or good, but they're not exciting. I think developing a unique style would change all that. But as always, this is easier said than done. How would anyone go about making their own style anyways? Isn't it just something that we are born with, because the way we draw is the way we draw.
My weakest point, I feel, is composition for a new idea. I'm not good at planning or at layout. Everything i come up with has a problem somewhere and I'm not sure how to fix it.
That's why i like doodling on homework.
Because creating something with your own two hands is so amazing, I have no words to describe the process and the joy that it brings. Thus, I present you the process in pictures and the end products. Enjoy!

Art Projects for Painting 11B at UCLA
These are some of the paintings that I did as assignments for the painting class I took at UCLA in Winter Quarter 2007. Most of the assignments were actually centered around Modern and Post-Modern art styles. hahah, i didn't take a Modernism class before I took this class, so I actually wasn't really sure about how to tackle the topics assigned to me. Well, these are my final products. I liked the way they turned out. But seriously. I should not have procrastinated on them and should have spent more time doing research about Modernism.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
So...This one is kind of weird. It was the first assignment I was given in this class. I really had no idea what I was doing. I had a live model and a skeleton set up in the middle of the studio. I felt bad for the model because she posed for so long and no one wanted to use her in their work, and since no one else in the class wanted to, i decided to incorporate her in mine. however, i wasn't exactly sure what i wanted to do. So i tried to go for that classical painting again. My professor said: this is a dead subject. It's been used so many times, it's dead and gone. So my work was kind of like something brought back from the dead. The good thing about this one: I built the canvas myself! :D Cost me a thumb (Actually it just bruised, but it still hurt!).
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
It starts off at the top with a lot of detail and precision. Then as you make your way down, it gets more messy and flow-y. All-nighter. The topic was any style/subject that I wanted to do.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
I painted this one in one night, mostly in Caitlin's room. haha. the topic for this assignment was Minimalism. I painted everything, except the head, with my fingers. haha...messy fun.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
This was just for fun, but my professor said that i should submit it with my Shirt painting. They didn't really go together, but some art students tried to make sense out of the two together! :D i just like the way the legs look.
Medium: Acrylic on paper
This was just an assignment to practice gradation. I picked a hard subject to try, but i'm not entirely unhappy with the outcome.
